SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – This past weekend Bob Vogel successfully defended his Stock Service Pistol division title at the International Defensive Pistol Association’s (IDPA) 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship, marking this as the sixth straight year the Team Panteao shooter has won his division at the match.
Vogel, who was the first competitor in IDPA to claim the sport’s Distinguished Master classification in all three pistol divisions, won all but two stages in the championship to outpace his nearest competitor by nearly 30 seconds and finish with a final time of 154.37 with 29 points down.
In addition to claiming the SSP title, Vogel’s finish also earned him High Law Enforcement and High Industry honors.
“Bob Vogel is riding an incredible win streak in IDPA that extends back to the 2007 IDPA Nationals. With his performance this weekend at the Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals, it’s hard to imagine that win streak won’t continue for some time,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.
Second place in the SSP division went to Team RangeLog’s Rob Tate who claimed first Master and the High Military Veteran title with his time of 184.16 and 66 points down. Randi Rogers of Team Comp-Tac took second Master and, for the fifth year in a row, the High Lady title posting a final time of 202.60 (93). Third Master went to David Dolio with 203.96 (58) while fourth Master and the High International title went to Luis Ricardo Zanotti of Venezuela who finished with a time of 203.97 (76).
Elsewhere in the division Nick Bedio took first Expert honors with 228.48 (61) and will move up to Master class, while Justin Sitler finished first Sharpshooter with 264.01 (102) and will move up to Expert class. Jack Hamel will move up to Sharpshooter after taking first Marksman with 347.39 (160).
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Barton Nanney claimed the High Military title on the strength of a final time of 281.41 (65) in the SSP division.
The 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship took place February 21-23 at the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Mass., drawing many of the shooting sports’ top pistol shooters from 28 states, one U.S. territory and three foreign nations.
