Glock’s Dave Sevigny serves up a heaping helping of puck on stage 5, a hockey themed stage Sevigny designed and sponsored by the NHL’s Atlanta Thrashers.
That’s right, the Atlanta Thrashers. I know, it’s a little hard to believe but it’s true.
Sevigny had the opportunity to meet and hang out with execs from the Thrashers’ front office and pitched them on sponsoring the Area 6 match. One thing led to another and now, not only is there a stage adorned with Thrashers swag, but there are also potentially two new competitors to add to the USPSA ranks as the Thrashers’ front office bigwigs are very interested in shooting.
Their interest stems from a visit to a match at Sevigny’s invitation. Afterwards they got some one-on-one instruction from Glock’s shooting team captain. I had a chance to talk to one of them, on the same day they fired their entire coaching staff no less, and he explained to me the similarities between die-hard hockey fans and USPSA competition shooters. It was a very interesting observation. Both are totally immersed in their sport and follow events religiously, even traveling to away games.
Of course, competitive athletes are always drawn to competition, just ask Sevigny who was a hockey player before shooting his first GSSF match and going on to become a national and world champion. Both front office execs are hoping to get some time on the range this summer now that the NHL regular season has come to an end. And with any luck, we’ll see a couple guys in Thrashers logo’d Teachwear shirts in the shooter’s box.
Shooter ready? Stand by….
