EXETER, N.H. (August 21, 2011) — Team SIG SAUER Captain Max Michel, Jr., brought the final World Speed Shooting Championship to be held in Piru, Calif., to a close with a runner-up finish. Michel set a world record on Roundabout with four runs totaling 7.96 seconds, during which Michel drew his pistol four times and hit 20 total targets.
Starting next year, the crown jewel of Steel Challenge shooting moves to Frostproof, Fla., after a 30-year run in California.
“I’m going to miss Piru and all its character,” Michel said. “But I’ve had a lot of success in Frostproof, and it’s closer to home, so I’m looking forward to next year already.”
A three-time champion (2005, 2007, 2009), Michel shot all eight stages in just 81.24 seconds, including two stage wins. Over the entire match, Michel drew 32 times and hit 160 targets just over 80 seconds.
Next up for Michel is the United States Practical Shooting Association’s Area 4 Championship in Wichita Falls, Texas.
