BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) announced that New Hampshire firearms maker SIG SAUER® will be one of the major sponsors of the upcoming Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals.
SIG SAUER joins Apex Tactical Specialties, Harris Publications, Michigan Ammo Company, the National Shooting Sports Foundation and Smith & Wesson, the title sponsor, in supporting this latest IDPA national championship event. As part of their support, SIG SAUER will host the the reception prior to the Saturday evening awards banquet.
“The inaugural Back Up Gun National Championship is drawing a great deal of support from the firearms industry and we’re very happy to add the name SIG SAUER to the growing list of sponsors,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director for IDPA.
“We are excited to sponsor and participate in the Smith & Wesson Back Up Gun Nationals this year. The Sig Sauer Academy believes strongly in responsible concealed carry and the training to back it up. This unique match is a great opportunity to test skills in a fun, competitive environment with the handgun most often carried. It’s one thing to run a match with your five inch competition gun, it’s a different ballgame running your subcompact,” said Adam Painchaud, director of the Sig Sauer Academy.
The Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals will take place November 14-16 and feature a 13-stage course of fire with a round count of 180. Held on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, match officials expect the event to draw upwards of 200 top IDPA shooters vying for titles in either the Pistol or Revolver division.
Registration is open and just a handful of slots are still available for those interested in competing. Registration is being conducted online at MatchReg.com/BUG.
