Shelby Township, MI – The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) announced today that Larry and Brenda Potterfield, founders and owners of MidwayUSA, have committed to donate $3 Million Dollars to the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) and Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) for programs in 2012.
Although the Potterfield name is synonymous with MidwayUSA, this generous gift is a personal donation from Larry and Brenda Potterfield. The purpose of the donation is to grow and sustain youth shooting programs for as many high school and college students as possible. The Potterfield’s donated $1.6 Million to the Foundation in 2011 and this years $3 Million dollar donation is the largest one the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation has received to date.
“Brenda and I are proud to partner with the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation again this year to support getting more kids involved in the shooting sports,” said Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA. “We strongly support initiatives like this because we believe we have an obligation to help change the future for the better.”
The only way to guarantee the future of the shooting sports is to attract more young men and women and the Potterfields see SSSF as a major player in accomplishing this necessary goal.
“Thanks to the generous support of people like Larry and Brenda Potterfield, we will be able to introduce the clay target sports to more youth across the nation than ever before and give them the opportunity to participate in high-quality team-based competitions like our Scholastic Clay Target Program,” said Jon M. McGrath, Chairman of the SSSF Board of Trustees. “A donation like this from the Potterfields will go a long way in helping us achieve our mission of developing more young shooters, and furthering the future of our sport all across the nation.”
Larry and Brenda Potterfield founded both MidwayUSA and the MidwayUSA Foundation and are strong advocates of the shooting sports and use donations like this one to further opportunities for shooting programs. MidwayUSA, which was founded and is owned by the Potterfields, is the world leader in the distribution of shooting and reloading supplies and equipment.
The Potterfields have a long history of generous support of shooting organizations. In 2008, they established the MidwayUSA Foundation with over a half-million dollar personal donation. The MidwayUSA Foundation is a not-for-profit public foundation that is designed to provide financial support and backing for both training and education in shooting, hunting, and outdoor skills, as well as firearms safety. The Foundation’s first endowment was the creation of the Scholastic Shooting Trust Fund, which was developed to provide alumni and interested patrons with a way of financially contributing to the shooting teams of various colleges and high schools.
