IDPA To Crown The King of New England

King-of-New-EnglandBERRYVILLE, Ark. – The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), in cooperation with the match directors of New England’s three main championships, today announced the format for the King of New England, a brand new three event concurrent competition to take place this season.

“The format for the King of New England is simple and designed to spotlight not just three excellent matches but also New England’s top local shooters. We think it will be very popular with members living and competing in New England, and help increase participation in all three matches,” explained Robert Ray.

Working with the match directors from the Massachusetts and New Hampshire state championships, as well as the New England regional, four stages will be selected in each of the three matches. These 12 stages will make up the course of fire that will determine the King of New England winners in each of IDPA’s five divisions. Match directors will select one alternate stage which will be substituted in the event that one of the four selected stages is thrown out.

Competitors shooting in a single division in all three events will contest the King of New England with winners named based on the best combined scores from the 12 selected King of New England Stages.

The first leg of the race for King of New England will be the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson, taking place June 1-2 in North Dartmouth at the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford.

The second leg of the contest will be the 2013 Smith & Wesson New England Regional IDPA Championship scheduled for Aug. 16-18 at the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club in Harvard, Mass.

The final leg of the series will be the Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship which is will be held at Pioneer Sportsmen in Dunbarton, New Hampshire and is scheduled for Oct. 18-19.
