IDPA (The International Defensive Pistol Association) members are gathered at the US Shooting Academy in Tulsa Oklahoma for their national championship. Over 400 shooters from different parts of the world are shooting for honors and bragging rights. I talked briefly with Robert L. Ray (Member & Marketing Manager) and Joyce L. Wilson (Executive Director) and they are both very pleased with the increase in numbers both in terms of the attendance at the National Championship and the total number of members in affiliated clubs. IDPA has grown to be a 17000 plus member organization. This is a sport very popular among concealed handgun holders, since the sport emphasize on good shooting skills in scenarios very close to real self defense situations. Although this sport has become very popular among “regular” men and women, it also attracts top shooters like Smith & Wesson’s Julie Golob. See video below:
