A couple weeks ago they held the Wyoming State Steel Challenge. And while the turnout wasn’t huge – Steel Challenge is still expanding beyond Piru – it did draw a good crowd with lots of enthusiasm. They’re already talking about next year’s match and expanding to a regional shoot.
Among those attending were Julie Golob, of Team Smith & Wesson, and Carrie Jamrogowicz, who road-tripped from Montana to compete. Julie took top Lady honors by finishing 3rd overall with her Production gun, and in case that wasn’t good enough, she placed 4th overall with her Limited gun.
High overall in the match, and the title of Wyoming’s fastest, went to Steve Nott who shot the 8 Steel Challenge stages in 118.21. Dan Morgan finished in second, just 0.60 seconds behind Nott.
Brent Wilkes, the match director, finished second behind Golob in Limited, shooting a time of 125.84 to Julie’s 124.15. Steve Nott placed third in Limited with Larry Domson fourth and Dave Manzer in fifth.
In Open, Chris Iacovetto took third behind Nott and Morgan. Steve Hopkins claimed fourth (shooting an Open Revolver) and Sean Dunn too fifth.
In Rimfire, Dan Morgan took the Open Rimfire pistol title while Wilkes grabbed the Iron Sight Rimfire honors.
Below are photos from the match which were taken by Julie – amazing how she can shoot and take pics of herself at the same time.
