Colt Defense LLC is pleased to announce that $6,700 was raised for the Dan Wheldon Memorial Auction through the sale of three donated Colt firearms. The auction on GunBroker.com closed Monday with final bids at $1,240 for the Colt LE6920MP-FDE rifle and $1,235 for the Colt LE6920MP-B rifle. At the close of bidding, the uniquely engraved, 100th Anniversary edition Colt M1911 pistol yielded $4,225.

The anniversary edition of the pistol commemorated the ties between the 100th Anniversaries of both the Colt 1911 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With its custom engraving and unique model number (98Indy500) honoring Wheldon’s car number when he won this year’s Indy500, the pistol was expected to bring a high value at auction.

The Dan Wheldon Memorial Auction was established for the family of the late Dan Wheldon, two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, who died in a race accident on Oct. 16, 2011.
