Buckeye Chippewa Trapshooting Club Wins Junior Varsity Division Handicap Trap National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio’s Buckeye Chippewa Trapshooting Club claimed the Handicap Trap title in the Junior Varsity Division during competition at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.

The Buckeye Chippewa Trapshooting Club took the title by breaking 872 of their 1,000 targets and were led by Shane Marshall of Medina who broke 185 of his 200 targets. Fellow Medina shooter Gino Lavalle finished with 174, followed by Logan Fletcher of Rittman with 173, Dakota Schandel of Gnadenhutten with 172 and Bryce Posten, also of Rittman, with 168.

Second place in the division went to the Volunteer State’s Cumberland County Clay Crushers. The Tennessee squad finished with a total of 845 targets. Clint Kemmer of Crossville led the team with 179, followed by Darren Kittrell of Oakdale with 175, Justin Reed and Noah Anderson, both of Crossville, with 170 ad 164 each, and Corbin Moore of Rockwood with 157.

Wisconsin’s Hudson Raider SCTP Shooting Club took third in the event. Tyler Melloy contributed 173 of the Raiders’ 796 total targets. Cody Cicha added 163, followed by Jordan Persinger with 157, Reed Meyer with 155 and Jake McCorkel with 148. All five shooters are from Hudson.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
