Brownells Hosts Scholastic Steel Challenge Demo In Iowa

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — This Saturday, Brownells and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association will be hosting a Scholastic Steel Challenge (SSC) demonstration at the Big Springs Shooting Complex in Searsboro, Iowa.

“We’re very excited to be working with Brownells to introduce the Scholastic Steel Challenge to the young men and women of Iowa. Brownells is well known for their support of the shooting sports, and especially within their local community, so we anticipate SSC will be a big hit so close to the Brownells corporate headquarters,” said Scott Moore, director of SSC.

The Scholastic Steel Challenge is a national team-oriented youth shooting program developed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association and funded in part by a grant from the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The program is open to young men and women ages 12 to 20 and offers them the opportunity to compete as a four person team for a national title in the action pistol discipline of speed shooting.

Already this year the Scholastic Steel Challenge has hosted demonstration events with the Young Marines in Knoxville, Tennessee, Reno, Nevada and Fort Pickett, Virginia, as well as with the Arizona Game & Fish Commission at the Ben Avery facility in Phoenix.

While the SSC program has received tremendous support from the firearms industry, and particularly from gun makers Glock and Smith & Wesson whose staff members have routinely volunteered at the demonstrations, this weekend’s event marks the first time a demonstration shoot has been hosted by a member of the firearms industry.

“What makes Brownells’ support of this weekend’s event so important is that it sends a message to other leaders in the firearms industry that not only is SSC a program worth supporting, but companies need only look out their front door for opportunities to grow the shooting sports,” added Moore.
