SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Brandon Wright, captain of the International Training, Inc. shooting team (Team ITI), captured the Enhanced Service Pistol title at the International Defensive Pistol Association’s (IDPA) 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship this past weekend.
Wright outpaced his nearest competitor, James McGinty, by 11.61 seconds, winning six of the 12 stages to finish with a final time of 166.01 with 34 points down.
“Brandon put in a dominating performance this year at the Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals, finishing with the second best time of any shooter in any division. With his win this past Saturday IDPA congratulates Brandon on becoming IDPA’s newest Distinguished Master,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.
Second place overall in the division went to McGinty, one of IDPA’s Distinguished Masters, who finished with a final time of 177.62 (59). Third place overall in the division went to Wright’s fellow Team ITI teammate, and Team RangeLog member, Morgan Allen who took first Master with three stage wins and a time of 182.35 (53). Team Comp-Tac’s Gordon Carrell took second Master with 185.30 (51), followed by Scott Warren of Warren Tactical Sights who took third Master as well as the overall title of High Senior with 200.08 (76), and Team RangeLog’s Ravin Perry finishing fourth Master with 202.96 (111).
Elsewhere within the ESP division Eric Phinney took first Expert with 204.94 (63) which moves him up to Master class. Timothy Smith finished first Sharpshooter with 263.52 (81) to move him up to Expert while Jimmy McColgan claimed first Marksman 287.73 (93) and will move up to Sharpshooter. Cindy Bowser took top lady within ESP, finishing third among all women with 263.27 (84). Dan Smith won the High Distinguished Senior title with 276.09 (98). The coveted title of Most Accurate went to Venezuela’s Juan Carlos Gonzalez Valdez 205.52 (31).
The 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship took place February 21-23 at the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Mass., drawing many of the shooting sports’ top pistol shooters from 28 states, one U.S. territory and three foreign nations.
