SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — John Koppi of Rogers, Minn. won the Limited-10 division title at the U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) Florida Open Handgun Championship.
Koppi took the early lead by winning the first stage of the match and remained out in front winning another four stages. He finished the match with a final score of 1485.5186 points.
Finishing in second place, and more than 170 behind Koppi, was Anthony Luciani of Phoenix, Ariz. Third place went to Canadian shooter Yuri Bulgakov of Newmarket, Ontario with 1212.4324. Both shooters claimed stage wins with Luciani winning stages two and eight, and Bulgakov winning stage nine.
Rounding out the top five were Randy Gary of Vail, Colo. in fourth and Pedro Ortiz of Savannah, Ga. in fifth with scores of 1186.8891 and 1165.9270 respectively.
Elsewhere in Limited-10 division competition, Brian Williams of Lynden, Wash. finished as the high Super Senior with a score of 1095.4993.
The USPSA Florida Open Handgun Championship was held this past weekend at the Universal Shooting Academy in Frostproof, Fla. and drew more than 365 top competition shooters, including competitors from Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Norway, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Spain.
The next major match on the USPSA calendar is the 2011 Area 6 Regional Pistol Championship which will be held April 15-17 at the Universal Shooting Academy.
