Shooting Gallery Close Quarter’s Show

If you are landing on this page, it was built and posted to give special credit and thanks to those that did not receive it from a show that aired on the Shooting Gallery T.V. show last night (this episode will rerun again in late April). There are those who did the work either with me, before me, or parallel to me that deserve the credit. I really want to let everyone know there were many more involved that made the highlighted feature such a great show!

Key information:

  • The show was great! Special thanks to Mike Bane, and the Shooting Gallery crew as well as Downrange TV for all they did.
  • The material was presented as material that I developed, which is where this post comes in. I DID NOT develop anything…more on that later. There were many more that helped, developed, or facilitated what I showed on TV, and they deserve the credit. Needless so say, I might not credit someone on this page that I do not know, or have not trained with that has influenced this material, and if so please take credit if you are reading this and deserve it!

Credit and Special thanks (website links are present on the names, visit their sites):

  • Mike Brown and Brandon Bennett, USSA adjunct instructors who developed USSA’s CQT program, and taught me a large percentage of what I know.
  • Craig Douglas with Shivworks (aka Southnarc), who I have not trained with, but have been told is absolutely instrumental in the codification of the material we have at USSA (through the CQT lesson plan). Craig is credited with putting this type of material together into a system, with key terms that I believe came directly from him. I can’t say for sure, but the concept of “same side access control” and “when to access”, were developed by him (and possibly some key individuals he works with that I do not know). I have been told, Craig is the best in the business with this material, so find some time to train with him!
  • Steve R., Cardo U., Steve T., and the Firearms division at the FAM’s (Federal Air Marshal Service) where we developed the first Close Quarters material I have been exposed to, before having the pleasure to continue to develop the material in Tulsa (at USSA). There are other “contract” instructors who will go unnamed here that helped with the program, but special thanks to their insight given from real world close combat situations.
  • My combative/martial arts instructors, Cardo U., Tommy M., Dan N., Royce G., Rorion G., and several others who have helped me work with the control and protective positions over the years.

Lastly, there are those that may have misunderstood the comment made by the show host (Mike Bane), that “Mike Seeklander developed this material”, which is incorrect. I have never believed I have “developed” anything, I just teach the best material have to my students which comes from every great instructor I have ever worked with. I did actually have one technique that I thought was mine, but after 3 years found that it existed in the 80’s! Most good instructors come to the same conclusions give the same problem.

Thanks to all of them, and I humbly submit that “ALMOST everything has already been said”, even if it has a different name.
