Favorite Gun for 2017: The Cimarron “Bad Boy” .44 Magnum
“The Cimarron “Bad Boy” .44 Magnum was hands down my favorite gun for 2017! In the first place, because it is built on an 1860 Army frame, it is beautiful. The 1860 Army is the epitome of handgun elegance, what you see when you close your eyes and think “revolver.” The Bad Boy expands on that with an 8-inch octagonal barrel and a blue-black finish that harkens back to an earlier time. Perfect!
And everyone knows that whenever a new .44 Magnum is released, an angel who looks suspiciously like Elmer Keith gets his wings. The .44 Magnum is the most versatile cartridge in the world, running the gamut from puffball gallery loads up to genuine dinosaur killers. To me, such a cartridge deserves an elegant package.
I could tell you about trigger pull and sight picture and group size with 240-gr jacketed hollow-points, but to what end? I accept that we live in a polymer-framed, striker-fired Flat Dark Earth ballistic table Tactical World. But maybe the measure of a pistol like Cimarron’s “Bad Boy” is whether, in another universe, it would be the gun we’d choose for a walk down a Tombstone street with some guys named Earp and Holliday.
Well done, Cimarron…well done!”
