BERRYVILLE, Ark. – American gun making icon Colt has signed on as a major sponsor of the sold-out 2014 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship, according to an announcement made today by officials with the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA).
Colt joins Apex Tactical Specialties, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Rand Brands and Smith & Wesson, the title sponsor, in supporting the match. As part of their support, Colt will sponsor one of the 14 stages in the course of fire.
“Colt is one of the best known brands in the world, and as maker of the legendary Colt 1911 they are a natural partner for IDPA where so many of our members not only compete with a 1911 but carry one as well. We’re grateful for Colt’s sponsorship and thank them for their continued support of the shooting sports,” said Robert Ray, membership and marketing director for IDPA.
“Supporting our industry and the shooting sports is extremely important to Colt,” said Joyce Rubino, Vice President of Marketing for Colt’s Manufacturing Company. “This is one of the great IDPA matches of the year, and we look forward to being part of this highly successful event. We also wish the best of luck to our own Mark Redl, who will be competing.”
Now in its 17th year, the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor Nationals will take place February 20-22 on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. The championship represents the official start of IDPA’s competition season and is regarded as one of the finest competitive shooting matches in the country, thanks to industry support from companies like Colt.
