BURLINGTON, Wash. – Team Rudy Project’s Kale Garretson of Lubbock, Texas outgunned B.J. Norris of Tyler, Texas by 38 points to take the Production division title at the U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s Area 4 Handgun Championship in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Starting the match as far back as seventh place, Garretson worked his way to the lead with three early stage wins. After claiming the lead on the fifth stage, the Rudy Project shooter held off the pack, including Norris, who came within less than four points of overtaking him, to take the win.
Garretson finished with a final score of 1462.0895 points and four stage wins. Norris took second with one stage win and a final 1424.0891 points.
“Kale shot an excellent match against a strong field of shooters to win the 2011 title,” said Phil Strader, the USPSA Area 4 director.
Rounding out the top five in the division were Steve Speer in third with three stage wins and 1389.9934 points, Rodney May of Memphis, Tenn. in fourth with 1380.5133 and Phil Strader of Owasso, Okla. in fifth with four stage wins and 1370.3789 points.
Elsewhere within the division, Rhonda Stonaker claimed the Women’s Production title with eight stage wins and a score of 974.1743. Nathan Higdon finished 14th overall with 1159.1301 points to take the Junior Production title while Tim Norris of Tyler, Texas finished as the top senior shooter in 28th place overall with 966.7209.
